      WHO IS ANN WHITE?

In the winter of 1979, Ann White met with some friends in Northwood and discussed forming a theater group.  In June of 1980, their first production, "Frankenstein," was performed.  Thus, Northwood Theater Workshop was born.  The N.T.W. was the love of Ann's life.  She involved herself in every aspect of the group, whether producing, directing, building sets, painting scenery, or even being onstage.  Ann would travel up and down Rte. 4 putting up posters and with that soft, melodic voice of hers, convince every business to pay for an ad in the program.  No one could resist Ann's charm.

Ann's dedication to N.T.W. was only matched by her dedication and love for her friends and her community.  Everyone in Northwood knew Ann.  After losing her husband, Jack, to cancer, she spent many years volunteering her time with Hospice.  She later became the co-founder of ABC Quilts, an organization that she and her friend, Ellen Ahlgren began.  The idea behind ABC Quilts was that they would make quilts for babies born with AIDS.  They got a few friends together, and in no time, the business boomed.  Ultimately, they were shipping thousands of quilts a week all over the world to give some heartfelt comfort to those sick little babies.

When it came time for Ann to leave Northwood and move to Australia to live with her daughter, it was a very difficult goodbye for so many people.  There was a farewell party held at The Masonic Hall.  The Board of Directors at that time presented Ann with a framed declaration showing the official name change of the group from The Northwood Theater Workshop to The Ann White Northwood Theater Workshop.  She was incredibly touched and honored.

Although she is half way around the world, and sorely missed by the Northwood community and The AWNTW, her spirit remains with all who know and love her.  Ann, through her sense of humor, dedication to the theater,  her community, and all those who love her, will never be forgotten.
