      AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE
      FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Dear Members and Friends of the Ann White Northwood Theater Workshop,

I am here to let you know that as a company, the Ann White Northwood Theater
Workshop will be officially dissolved. The AWNTW board of directors has decided
that a merger into the Pittsfield Players is in the best interest of both theater groups.  As most of you know, we were unable to continue our residence at the Masonic Hall in Northwood. The rent and expenses were not allowing us to keep our heads above water.  In 2010, we were able to make an arrangement with
the Pittsfield Players that was a better deal for us and the Scenic Theatre
turned out to be a much more comfortable space in which to rehearse,
perform and sit through a show.

In anticipation of the move out of the Masonic Hall and according to our bylaws, we gave Coe-Brown Academy theater group, the Strafford School theater program and the Chichester School program, first choice of any
costumes and props they might need. We had a huge yard sale
and then moved the rest of our costumes, props, lights etc. to Pittsfield
and have been very happy sharing their space.

It has become increasingly clear that for both groups to be performing
in the same space, asking cast and crew to pay membership dues to both groups, to have both groups paying insurance on the same people, and to have a duplication of  manpower on two fronts for various necessary theater functions is, frankly, a waste of precious resources (both financial and physical) in these difficult economic times.

The Pittsfield Players Membership agreed to expand their board to include two
members from AWNTW in order to insure that both groups were on the same page as far as schedules, etc. were concerned.  Carole Neveux and I have been attending the meetings for a year now as non-voting (but vocal) members.  We have both been impressed with the welcome we have received, the flexibility of the Pittsfield Board, and the general running of the theater.

According to the Pittsfield Players bylaws, an official amalgamation must be voted on by their membership, which will take place in June.  Their board is urging the membership to accept this merger.  The Pittsfield Players are allowing us to bill this as the "Last Season of AWNTW," even though we will officially become part of the Pittsfield Players at some point this summer.  Consequently, we are planning on two shows this season. The first, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," will be produced in late June and the second will be produced in August.

I understand that this is very sad news for all of us.  Ann White’s theater group had a great run of over 30 years.  We've produced over 60 great shows, children’s theater projects, improv, etc.  However, the financial picture is plain, and with our dwindling financial resources, we find this to be a great option for us to continue with likeminded folks who share similar goals of producing great theater.

I have high hopes that this union will mean better theater for all of us.  If you feel the need to vent about this move, please feel free to call me, I would be happy to talk with you.  I ask that you please continue to support great theater in the area…come to auditions and volunteer to work on stage or backstage. If you can’t do that, please come support our final season shows as an enthusiastic audience member…and please join us by becoming a member of the Pittsfield Players.

      Warm Regards,
      Geri Veroneau, President, AWNTW
